In a lengthy and comprehensive consideration of the question, the court held that the Fourteenth Amendment guarantees the right to appointed counsel for a first appeal to indigent juveniles who are adjudged a juvenile delinquent. People v. Wende (1979) 26 Cal.3d 736 applies to appeals in Welfare and Institutions Code section 602 proceedings.
