Newman was convicted of multiple felony offenses. The court sentenced him to 15 years and imposed fines and fees. This occurred prior to the Dueñas decision. On appeal, Newman requested that the court strike the assessments in light of Dueñas.

Holdings/Reasoning:

Newman conceded he did not object to the fees or fines at the trial court. Based on this the court concluded he forfeited his Dueñas argument, citing People v. Frandsen (2019) 33 Cal.App.5th 1126, 1153–1155 and People v. Bipialaka (2019) 34 Cal.App.5th 455, 464.
