Name: TRC Operating Co. v. Chevron
Case #: F083724
Court: CA Court of Appeal
District 5 DCA
Opinion Date: 06/21/2024

Juror not ineligible to serve (CCP 203) based on out-of-state sex conviction. CCP 203(a)(11) disqualifies prospective jurors who are “currently required to register as a sex offender pursuant to [PC 290] based on a felony conviction,” and PC 290.05, not PC 290, governs registration for out-of-state convictions. Reading the statute literally does not lead to absurd results as it is reasonable to spare courts the complex analysis required to determine which out-of-state convictions qualify under PC 290.05.
