California Innocence Project – Cal Western School of Law
The California Innocence Project (CIP) is a law school program that operates out of the Institute for Criminal Defense Advocacy of California Western School of Law. Students work alongside practicing criminal defense lawyers to seek the release of wrongfully convicted inmates, in the state of California, who maintain their factual innocence.

California Public Defenders Association (CPDA)
The California Public Defenders Association offers Continuing Legal Education Services, Audio/ Video CLE Libraries, Research & Practice Materials, and a Legislative Advocacy Program.

Immigrant Legal Resource Center
As a member of the national Defending Immigrants Partnership, ILRC educates and assists indigent criminal defenders about immigration consequences of crimes administration of justice. Their website contains a quick reference chart on the immigration consequences of California offenses.

Stanford Law School Immigrants’ Rights Clinic
Students in the Stanford Law School Immigrants’ Rights Clinic have drafted Know-Your-Rights materials to “empower[] unrepresented immigrants with knowledge and resources to advocate for themselves before ICE and immigration court.” The materials are available on the clinic’s website. One resource is a toolkit for criminal defenders working with noncitizen clients who may be placed in removal proceedings through the Institutional Hearing Program (IHP). The clinic developed these materials on behalf of the Immigrant Legal Resource Center (ILRC). The IHP companion guide for criminal defense attorneys includes: an overview of IHP; best practices for protecting noncitizen clients’ rights; advice to share with clients on how clients may prepare for immigration removal proceedings; answers to clients’ common questions about the program; and an index of current IHP locations. Additional guides on IHP, asylum, and other topics are also available on the web site.

Northern California Innocence Project – Santa Clara Law School
The NCIP is a law school program founded at the Santa Clara Law School. The resources of the NCIP are extremely limited. Therefore, they only consider cases of California prisoners who were convicted in Central and Northern California courts and are seeking to advance a claim of factual innocence.

Prison Law Office
The Prison Law Office provides free legal services to California state prisoners, and occasionally to California state parolees. Their assistance is generally limited to cases regarding conditions of confinement, not civil lawsuits.
