OSPD Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Webinar

On Thursday, July 18, 2024, OSPD will host an informational webinar regarding recent changes to the federal Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program regulations that expanded the definition of “qualifying employment” for purposes of federal student loan forgiveness. The webinar will provide information on what the new regulations state and how these changes may apply to contract and panel attorneys who provide indigent defense outside of institutional public defender offices.

The no-cost Zoom registration link is HERE.

***Note:  No MCLE or Legal Specialization Credit is being offered for this training.***

The JCC is willing to certify the number of claimed hours that a panel attorney has billed in a given year. The January 2024, JCC announcement is posted on our website HERE and discusses the application process for panel attorneys to get their hours certified by the JCC. As always, we strongly encourage counsel to continue claiming their actual time on claims and avoid self-cutting.

The projects have also drafted a statement that describes the unique panel/project state contractor relationship for representation of indigent appellants in the Court Appointed Counsel system. We hope that it will provide panel attorneys a useful description of panel work and the panel system that can be submitted with the federal PSLF application.

The projects hope that these changes mean that borrowers with federally-managed loans may obtain loan forgiveness. Please share your success stories with us!
