The Court of Appeal held that under Penal Code section 654, appellant could only be punished once for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and the possession of a controlled substance while armed with a firearm. Similarly, he could only be punished once for possession of a controlled substance while armed and for possession of a controlled substance. The case was remanded for resentencing so the trial court could exercise its new sentencing discretion under Assembly Bill No. 518.
