Name: People v. Mejia
Case #: C093678
Opinion Date: 03/01/2023
Attorney: Matthew J. Watts
Summary

The Court of Appeal agreed appellant was entitled to reversal of his attempted murder convictions because the convictions were based on his aiding and abetting of a target felony, the natural and probable consequences of which resulted in attempted murders. This was a viable theory of attempted murder at the time of his trial but has since become nonviable due to Senate Bill Nos. 1437 and 775. The court remanded for a full resentencing hearing applying all newly enacted sentencing legislation.
